SNOW WINS IN SHOOTOUT
No. 11 Badgers Best New Mexico Military 64-54
ROSWELL, NM - The No. 11 Snow College football
came out alive following a 64-54 shootout
Saturday to beat New Mexico Military Saturday.
The Badgers got all they could handle from the
Broncos in a back and forth game where Snow
scored 22 fourth quarter points to claim the
victory.
“This was a battle from the first snap,” said
Snow College head coach Steve Coburn. “We never
gave up and I am proud of the way we finished.”
Although both teams offenses dominated for the
bulk of the game, it was Snow’s defense and
special teams that came up with game changing
plays in the fourth quarters, stopping a nearly
unstoppable Bronco attack its final three drives
and successfully converting an onside kick.
Sophomore quarterback Quinn Mecham (Timpview
High School) threw for five touchdowns and 140
yards in the game and rushed for another 39
yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore running back Tyson Church (North
Sanpete High School) ran for 194 yards and two
touchdowns and caught another in the game for
Snow.
Although the Badgers jumped out to an early 14-3
lead, the Broncos continued to pound the ball on
the ground. New Mexico amassed 442 total yards,
including 272 rushing in the game.
“We really had to work hard to stop the team,”
said Coburn. “Once we got a feel for their
offense we were able to make the plays we needed
to make.”
Snow College trailed 37-35 going into halftime
and fell behind even more when New Mexico put up
another touchdown on its first second half
drive.
“We just knew to never quit,” said Coburn.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Badgers,
outscoring New Mexico 22-0.
The Badgers (3-1) return home to take on
conference foe Glendale Community College
Saturday. The kickoff from Badger Stadium is set
for 1:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live
at www.snowbadgers.com.
