WSFL Week Six Games:

In Mesa the Thunderbirds hosted the Snow Badgers. It was a game that the Republic touted it as "Snow Crushes Mesa." Snow won 48-17. To those that know the T-Birds, they disagree, it was a mistake filled game, too many penaltiies and a free touchdown on a play that Snow just had to fall on the ball in the end zone. No one is making excuses but the simple fact is, when you don't have your starting QB, plus those penalties, you are going to get hurt against a good, older team. Mesa is still very much alive in the race to host the Valley of the Sun Bowl and will get the chance to prove it when they travel to rival SCC on Saturday.

The Gauchos won their game in Glendale against New Mexico Military Institute 41-21. Coach Mickey Bell said: "We won but we still have to clean up some of our sloppy play. Turnovers and penalties. We do have some talent, that's for sure." The Gauchos have a week off to rest, heal and prepare for their game in two weeks at Snow.

The Monsters from SE Arizona, the Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters ran over the Matadors from Arizona Western 41-7. EAC will host NMMI this coming week. Scores and recap, scroll down.

NMMI Drops Conference Game to Glendale 41-21

Glendale, AZ – Eleventh ranked Glendale Community College defeated the New Mexico Military Institute 41-21 in Western States Football League action Saturday night in Glendale

The Broncos got a solid return on the opening kickoff by Rasheed Dunlap (Fr. QB, Ellenton, FL) returning the ball 24-yards to their 26-yard line.  The Broncos scored on a 32-yard play when Darrin Allen (So. WR, New Orleans, LA) took the option pitch from quarterback Joel Lira (Fr. QB, Lubbock, TX).

Glendale would then score 28 unanswered points, jumping out to a 28-7 lead with 5:46 left in the second quarter.  The Gauchos took advantage of two NMMI interceptions, returning one for a score.

NMMI managed a 16-play drive as the first have came to a close.  NMMI drove 80-yards and scored on a 2-yard run by Cortae Minor (So. FB, Henderson, NV) to cut the Glendale lead down to 28-14.

The Broncos caught a break on the first play of the second half as Troy Seivwright-Adams (Fr. CB, Toronto, Canada) stripped the ball from Glendale receiver Gino Crump.  NMMI recovered and scored seven plays later on a 12-yard run by Minor.  Kevin Perez (Fr. K, El Paso, TX) converted on the PAT to bring the score to 28-21 in favor of Glendale.

Glendale put the game away on their next drive with an 18-yard pass from quarterback Brian Wiedeman.  The Broncos blocked the ensuing extra-point but were assessed a penalty for illegally batting the ball as they tried to pick up the lose ball. Glendale would convert on their second try to extend their lead to 35-21.

Glendale tacked on one more score to make it 41-21.

NMMI drops to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Western States Football League.  Glendale’s record now stands at 4-1 and 3-0 in the WSFL.  The Broncos are on the road again next weekend as they travel to Thatcher, Arizona for a game with Eastern Arizona College
